2008 Phillies Hero, Matt Stairs, Will Be At Wing Bowl 22

Today, the WIP Morning Show revealed a mystery Philly sports hero who will be at Wing Bowl 22 on January 31st. Here were the set of clues given to the listeners and some guesses:

  • Played for 12 teams
  • Wore 9 different uniform numbers
  • Played hockey

  • Played in 1988 Olympics
  • Professional Hitter
  • Once had six-RBI in one inning
  • Harry’s last home run call
  • Most pinch-hit HRs in MLB history (23)

The answer is Matt Stairs, and a caller guessed it correctly after the fifth clue, around 8:15am.

Stairs joined the WIP Morning Show later this morning and talked about the Wing Bowl, as well as his famous “moon shot” home run shot against the Dodgers in the 2008 NLCS, which will be played on the big screen at the event.

“I’ll be there [Wing Bowl 22] with an open mind and looking forward it,” Stairs told WIP Morning Show host Angelo Cataldi. “”I heard it’s a blast, I heard it’s a great time.”

Stairs joins Eagles center Jason Kelce (who will be eating), Sixers head coach Brett Brown, and of course Eagles long-snapper and second-year Wing Bowl commissioner Jon Dorenbos as Philly sports figures attending the event.
